Collectible Stocks and Bonds from North American Railroads
by Terry Cox

Utah

Became territory: September 9, 1850
Became state: January 4, 1896

Theoretically, certificates from Utah railroads ought to date from as early as 1869 when the last golden spike of the transcontinental railroad was tapped in west of Ogden. However, the earliest Utah railroad certificate known so far is an 1894 certificate from The Echo & Park City Railway Co. To assemble a collection of very many Utah certificates, you will need to enlarge your interests to the Union Pacific, Central Pacific, Western Pacific and D&RGW.

On the central shield is a beehive, the principal logo of the state of Utah. Below the beehive is '1847,' the date Mormans reached the Great Salt Lake. Behind the shield are two American flags. Above is an eagle with outstretched wings.
