One of original colonies
Became state: February 6, 1788
With its long history, this state has almost 500 certificate
varieties recorded so far, and that is likely to grow steadily with more
contributions. While there is a concentration of certificates among very
large, and old companies, there are also some very scarce companies with
only a handful of certificates known.

| A large number of engraved variations of this seal
are known on stocks and bonds. All seem to contain the central elements
of the Indian holding a bow in his right hand. Above is a right
arm holding a broad sword. A long ribbon below holds the words Ense
petit placidam sub libertate quietem (By the sword we seek peace,
but peace only under liberty.) |
