Kansas

Became territory: May 30, 1854
Became state: January 29, 1861

Because Kansas corporation records are better than most, it appears that a huge number of companies were licensed to do business in the state - almost 600 known so far. That is not to say they all saw operation. Currently, less than a 100 are represented by certificates. Only a tiny handful of certificates have yet been recorded as showing the state seal.
