Collectible Stocks and Bonds from North American Railroads
by Terry Cox

Colorado

Became territory: Febrary 28, 1861
Became state: August 1, 1876

The number of varieties of railroad certificates available from Colorado are limited compared to states in the eastern U.S. In fact, 15% of all known varieties come from the narrow gauge Denver & Rio Grande and its descendent, the Denver & Rio Grande Western. Few of the remaining varieties are common. Because of its position at the pinnacle of narrow gauge mountain railroading, it is a highly sought-after state among collectors.

Shield with mountains and crossed pick and shovel. Sunrays originate from all-knowing "Eye of God" above fasces. State motto of Nil Sine Numine (Nothing without Providence) on ribbon below shield.
