Alabama

Became state: Dec 14, 1819

About 10% of the known varieties of railroad certificates come from the Mobile & Ohio Railroad. Unlike most states, the remaining varieties are spread suffiiciently so the specialist has a a fairly wide range of Alabama railroads to collect. Like other Southern states, there are only a handful of pre-Civil War certificates.

The easiest of all state seals to identify, the seal shows a map of the state with its rivers and the names of Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida. In imitative versions, the name of Alabama might also show.
