I get a tremendous number of inquires every week. Consequently,
I can only answer questions DIRECTLY related to RAILROAD STOCKS
AND BONDS.
You have reached this particular page because you have a question
about a piece of paper money. Most likely, you searched for a printer's
name.
The currency you are probably asking about is known in the hobby
as "obsolete currency." It is called "obsolete"
because the United States government taxed it out of existence in 1863. The hobby of collecting obsolete currency is large and popular.
To learn more, use your favorite search engine and enter the search
words, "obsolete currency."
Unfortunately, 90% of the inquiries I get are really about reproductions.
Sadly, over 75 varieties of obsolete and colonial currency have
been reproduced for promotional purposes and giveaways.
Unlike true obsolete currency, most reproductions and bogus notes
are printed on parchment paper. This gives the impression
that such notes are old and valuable.
They are not.
